Atlético Madrid have stopped pretending this is a normal transfer conversation. Their message to Barcelona over Julián Alvarez is now brutally clear: there will be no negotiation under the club’s current position.
Atlético’s board has publicly backed the refusal to discuss a transfer of the Argentina forward to their La Liga rivals, saying there is “zero consideration” of an Alvarez move to Barcelona.
The official position gives institutional weight to a stance already expressed even more forcefully by Atlético chief executive Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, who has said Alvarez will “never, ever” be sold to Barcelona.
It has become a club-to-club confrontation.
Atlético say they remain open to normal transfer negotiations when they are conducted professionally and respectfully, but their board has unanimously supported the decision not to negotiate with Barça over Alvarez.
