Ghana have chosen continuity over another reset. The Ghana Football Association has confirmed that Carlos Queiroz will remain head coach of the Black Stars under a new mandate, extending the Portuguese coach’s stay beyond the assignment that took him through the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The decision keeps one of African football’s most experienced coaches in charge at a point when Ghana could easily have reopened the dugout debate.
Queiroz’s previous agreement was built around the World Cup and ended after the tournament, but the GFA said discussions involving the federation and Ghana’s Ministry of Sports and Recreation produced an agreement for him to continue into the next phase of the national-team programme.
This is not simply continuity for continuity’s sake
Ghana originally appointed Queiroz on a short-term deal for the World Cup, handing the former Real Madrid and Portugal coach responsibility for a Black Stars side carrying major expectations into the tournament.

Now the federation has decided that the relationship should continue.
When Queiroz first took the job, he framed the assignment as more than another coaching stop, placing responsibility, ambition and service to Ghanaian football at the centre of his mandate.
Judged by results rather than declarations
Queiroz has no fresh honeymoon. He knows the squad, the federation knows his methods and both sides have already gone through a major tournament together.
That gives Ghana’s decision an obvious pressure point: if continuity is the answer, the Black Stars now have to show what continuity can produce.
The GFA has not yet published the full details or duration of Queiroz’s new mandate, saying further information will be announced in due course.
The tactical, personnel and programme details may still be coming.
The biggest decision is already settled.
Ghana are not starting again. They are backing Queiroz to take the Black Stars forward.
