Masar and FUS Rabat have torn open the race for North Africa’s place at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League finals after delivering emphatic victories in the opening round of the UNAF qualifiers in Tunis.
Egypt’s Masar produced the biggest result of the first round, crushing hosts ASF Sousse 9-0, while Morocco’s FUS Rabat swept aside Algeria’s CF Akbou 4-0.
The pair immediately moved to three points each in the four-team qualification tournament, where only one club can advance to the continental finals.
Masar’s opening performance was the more destructive.
The Egyptian side were already five goals ahead by half-time before adding four more after the break, turning their first match into an early warning to every rival still to face them.
Gentrix Shikangwa struck twice during the first-half surge, while Yara Sabri added a second-half brace as Masar built a nine-goal advantage that could become significant in such a short qualifying competition.
FUS Rabat were not as prolific, but their message was just as clear.
The Moroccan representatives beat Akbou by four goals without conceding, matching Masar on points and ensuring the qualification battle had two immediate frontrunners after only one round.
That puts pressure straight back on Akbou and Sousse.
Both losing sides return for the second round knowing another defeat could leave their qualification hopes close to collapse. Akbou face Masar, while FUS Rabat meet Sousse as the tournament moves toward its decisive phase.
The final round could then deliver the collision the opening results have already begun to advertise: Masar against FUS Rabat.
If both preserve their perfect starts, that meeting will carry far more than prestige. It could become the direct fight for North Africa’s sole place in the CAF Women’s Champions League finals.
For now, the message from Tunis is impossible to miss.
