Nigeria responded to the pain of an overtime defeat with a demolition job.
The Junior D’Tigress swept Senegal aside 70–40 in Abidjan, producing a dominant performance that secured their passage into the knockout phase of the 2026 FIBA U18 Women’s AfroBasket.
Under FIBA’s official competition system, the tournament’s top eight teams advance to the quarter-finals, putting Nigeria firmly into the elimination stage of the continental championship.
The victory was the response Nigeria needed after their narrow loss to Cameroon earlier in the group phase.
Against Senegal, the pressure came early and stayed there.
Nigeria built a commanding advantage before half-time and never allowed Senegal to turn the contest into a genuine fight, eventually closing out a 30-point victory.
The result leaves Junior D’Tigress alive in a tournament carrying stakes beyond the African title.
The top two teams at the 2026 U18 Women’s AfroBasket will qualify for the 2027 FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup, meaning every knockout game now carries direct international consequence.
For Nigeria, the Senegal victory therefore does more than repair momentum.
