Paris Saint-Germain will have to defend their European crown the hard way. The reigning champions have been handed Barcelona, Roma, Galatasaray and Slovan Bratislava at home in the 2026/27 Champions League league phase, with trips to Manchester City, Aston Villa, Villarreal and Como completing their eight-match route. There is no soft landing there.
Barcelona bring pedigree. Manchester City bring power. Aston Villa offer another Premier League examination.
Villarreal add the kind of away night that can turn a difficult European campaign into something even more uncomfortable.
For PSG, the pressure is obvious. They are no longer chasing Europe. Europe is chasing them. After retaining the Champions League last season, every opponent now gets a shot at the champions.
Every dropped point will be examined. Every heavyweight fixture becomes another test of whether PSG can carry championship authority into a new campaign.
Bayern Munich have their own difficult road. The German giants will host Arsenal, Real Betis, Bodø/Glimt and Slavia Praha, while their away schedule sends them to Atlético Madrid, Manchester United, Lille and Viking.

The Old Trafford trip jumps off the page.
Manchester United against Bayern carries history, crowd pressure and immediate global attention, making it one of the standout fixtures produced by the draw. United’s own home schedule also includes Roma, Leipzig and Sabah, while their away assignments include Atlético Madrid, Sporting CP, Villarreal and Como.
Elsewhere, Barcelona will host Manchester City and Aston Villa but must travel to PSG.
Manchester City host PSG, Sporting CP, Napoli and AEK Athens, with away trips to Barcelona, Porto, Leipzig and Lens.
The league-phase format again gives every club eight different opponents, four at home and four away, instead of the traditional four-team group.
That changes the rhythm of the competition. There is no home-and-away sequence against the same three opponents. Every fixture creates a different tactical problem. Every result moves the table.

And there is less time to recover from a bad night.
The league phase begins in September and runs into January, with the final scheduled for June 5, 2027 in Madrid. Exact dates and kick-off times for the individual league-phase fixtures are still to be released.
For now, the names are enough.
PSG have Barcelona and Manchester City waiting. Bayern must walk into Old Trafford.
And across Europe, the first pressure points of the new Champions League campaign are already visible.
The champions know who is coming.
Now comes the harder part.
Surviving all eight.
