Jamal Musiala has moved to explain the frightening scenes surrounding two recent Bayern Munich matches, revealing that doctors identified brief, temporary and treatable neurological absences behind the episodes.
The Germany international addressed the situation after requiring medical attention during Bayern’s pre-season friendly against Heidenheim, four days after another episode during a game against RB Leipzig.
Musiala said the episodes stem from a neurological dysfunction and stressed that he remains under specialist medical care. He also said he has received neurological clearance to continue playing football.
The disclosure changes what had been an unsettling sequence of public incidents into a medical situation Musiala himself has now chosen to explain.
Two incidents in four days
Musiala made his first appearance of Bayern’s pre-season against Leipzig on August 15.
He entered in the second half and scored the final goal of a 3-1 victory before later leaving the pitch. Musiala had collapsed on the field and subsequently left under his own power.

He returned to action against Heidenheim on August 18.
Musiala was introduced in the second half, created a chance for Harry Kane and then had to leave the match shortly afterwards after appearing affected again. Bayern went on to win 4-2. Two episodes in four days inevitably intensified concern.
Musiala then supplied the explanation himself.
Musiala addresses the concern
In his statement, Musiala described the condition as a brief and temporary absence caused by neurological dysfunction and said it was treatable.
He acknowledged that the incidents could appear alarming but said he was receiving strong medical support from specialists, Bayern and those around him. Crucially, the midfielder said the decision to continue playing had been made in consultation with neurologists.
His return-to-play status remains a matter for Musiala, his doctors and Bayern’s medical team.
Bayern were aware of the situation
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said after the Heidenheim match that the club was aware of Musiala’s situation and knew the player would address it publicly.
That provides important context around his appearance in the second friendly.
According to Musiala’s own account, he was acting with neurological clearance and in consultation with specialists. The episode nevertheless arrives at a sensitive point in Bayern’s preparations.
The German champions are due to face Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on August 22, their first competitive match of the new season.
Whether Musiala features remains a selection and medical decision and should not be assumed from his statement alone.

Another challenge after a long road back
Musiala’s latest disclosure follows an already demanding recovery period.
Bayern confirmed in July that he underwent a planned minor procedure following his return from the World Cup, as part of the medical programme connected to an earlier serious injury. He returned to full team training in August before making his first pre-season appearance against Leipzig.
Now another layer has been added to his comeback. This one demands a different kind of discipline from everyone watching it.
The images may be dramatic. The medical conclusions cannot be.
Musiala has explained what doctors have told him, said the condition is treatable and made clear that specialists remain involved in his care. Anything beyond that belongs to the medical team, not the speculation cycle.
