Manchester City have made one of the boldest youth investments of the summer, signing 18-year-old Morocco midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille.
City confirmed on Wednesday that Bouaddi has joined on a five-year contract until 2031, subject to international clearance. The club says the teenager arrives after making 96 senior appearances for Lille and winning eight caps for Morocco.
The fee was not disclosed by Manchester City, but Sky Sports reports that the package is worth £81.3 million guaranteed plus £4.3m in add-ons, taking the potential total to £85.6m. Sky also reports that the deal makes Bouaddi the most expensive teenage signing in Premier League history.
Valuation that will attract attention
Bouaddi is not arriving at the Etihad simply as a long-term prospect. At 18, he enters one of Europe’s most demanding club environments with a valuation that will attract attention every time he steps onto the pitch.
City’s interest is built on an unusually deep senior résumé for a player his age.
Bouaddi made his Lille first-team debut just days after turning 16 and has already accumulated 96 appearances for the French club. City also highlighted his progress with Morocco, having switched international allegiance after representing France at youth level.

Morocco now have one of their most highly rated young midfielders moving into a Premier League side built around title pressure, tactical demands and constant scrutiny.
