Christos Tzolis did not need long to put his name beside one of English football’s most recognisable figures.
The Arsenal winger registered two assists in the Gunners’ 3–0 Community Shield victory over Manchester City, becoming the first player since David Beckham in 1996 to produce at least two assists in the fixture.
It was the kind of contribution that could easily disappear behind a three-goal scoreline.
But Tzolis was central to Arsenal’s attacking control.
Riccardo Calafiori struck after just 24 seconds to give Mikel Arteta’s side an explosive start before Kai Havertz doubled the advantage in the 28th minute.
Tzolis helped create the second, heading the ball across goal for Havertz to finish and deepen Manchester City’s problems before half-time.
Arsenal then killed the contest shortly after the restart when captain Martin Ødegaard added the third.

By the end, City had been beaten 3–0 and Arsenal had lifted their 18th Community Shield.
Tzolis, however, emerged with a statistical marker of his own.
He becomes the first player since Beckham to register at least two assists in a Community Shield, with the former Manchester United midfielder last reaching that mark against Newcastle United in 1996.
That comparison does not make the two players identical. What it does underline is the immediate impact Tzolis made on a major occasion.
Community Shield matches arrive before teams have fully settled into the rhythm of a league campaign. New combinations are still developing, tactical relationships are being tested and players are moving from preseason intensity into competitive football.
Tzolis looked ready immediately
His movement gave Arsenal an extra attacking route, while his delivery helped turn early pressure into goals.

For Arteta, that matters.
Arsenal enter the new season as defending Premier League champions, and one of the central challenges of any title defence is finding fresh attacking energy before opponents adjust.
Tzolis’ performance offered an early answer.
One match does not settle a season
Two assists against Manchester City, in a match Arsenal controlled from the opening minute, are enough to make the winger one of the first names carrying momentum into the campaign.
The Beckham comparison will attract the headlines.
The more important message for Arsenal may be simpler.
Tzolis has already shown he can influence a major game and the new season has barely begun.
